Ada artist wins Dynamic Women butterfly contest

Eighteen-year-old Chickasaw citizen Madelyn Littlefield, of Ada, Okla., is the Chickasaw Nation Butterfly Art Contest winner for this year’s Dynamic Women of the Chickasaw Nation Conference.

A panel of judges chose Ms. Littlefield’s artwork from the art submitted to Chickasaw Nation Arts & Humanities.

Ms. Littlefield is a self-taught artist who finds inspiration from music, art and love. Her dream is to attend an art school, and to one day write, illustrate and publish a successful children’s book.

“This piece was greatly inspired by the beautiful Red Lacewing butterfly,” Ms. Littlefield said. “The females exhibit vibrant colors as a portrait of beauty, as well as danger to predators. The richness of this butterfly’s appearance, as well as its symbolism of strength, reminds us of our powerful, elegant and gorgeous Chickasaw.”

She thanks her family, Stephen and Teeoti Littlefield, Julie Tillar, Randy Humphrey and Joseph and Lindsey Hagan-Zertuche for their love and support. She also thanks the Chickasaw Nation for this wonderful opportunity.

The winning butterfly logo is used in all artwork and promotional materials for the 2017 Dynamic Women of the Chickasaw Nation Conference.
