Celebrating our progress, building an even brighter future

Happy New Year! We hope you all were able to celebrate the holidays with friends and family and take time to relax and renew. Each new year brings with it a sense of excitement about what the future will hold.

As we look to the excitement of new beginnings, let us also appreciate the important progress over the previous year at the Chickasaw Nation. Strong planning, a unified mission and the collective work of thousands of dedicated employees enabled our tribe to experience yet another outstanding year of growth and progress in our efforts to enhance the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people.

The Chickasaw Nation Department of Health was a recipient of the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The Baldrige Award is the highest level of national recognition that a U.S. organization can receive for performance excellence, particularly in relation to resilience and long-term success. We are thankful to have the dedicated employees and leadership of our department of health working every day in service of the Chickasaw people and other First American patients.

In 2024, the department of health had 1.1 million patient encounters and filled 1.5 million prescriptions. Our pediatric clinic welcomed nearly 31,000 patient visits, while our Packed Promise program took another important step to meet the nutritional needs of Chickasaw children by partnering with Amazon Business to offer online shopping.

Providing access to quality housing remained an important priority. Last year, more than $1 million was awarded to more than 400 Chickasaws through our down payment and closing cost assistance grant. To keep homeowners safe from natural disasters, we expanded the storm shelter program and renamed it the Homeowner Preparedness Grant, and increased grant funding.

We continued to expand education and development opportunities for all ages. This year, the higher education and career technology programs awarded more than 5,700 Chickasaw students with approximately $32.1 million in scholarships and other educational support. More than 1,000 youth participated in Chickasaw Nation camps, clinics and academies, and more than 800 Chickasaw youth received career development training through our Toksali SMART program.

We also remain dedicated to serving Chickasaw elders and veterans. This year, we completed six new homes specifically for our veterans. We also served more than 91,000 meals through the Chickasaw Nation Senior Centers and completed more than 1,300 home maintenance services, nearly 800 home visits.

Construction is underway for the new Ada Child Development Center, and we were also pleased to open a new Chickasaw Youth Club in the Ardmore area, as well as a new gym in Tishomingo and a new Youth Activity Center in Sulphur. We broke ground on the Chickasaw Heritage Center in Tupelo, Mississippi and celebrated 1 million visitors at the Chickasaw Cultural Center, a significant milestone.

Important and exciting milestones included the 30th anniversary of the Chickasaw Historical Society, the 20th anniversary since reestablishing the Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department and 20 years of service at the Purcell health clinic and Chickasaw Children’s Village.

We appreciate all those whose efforts contribute to meeting our mission, and we look forward to all that 2025 will bring. We remain committed to working towards even more progress and opportunities today and for future generations of Chickasaws.
