ADA, Okla. - Chickasaw citizens will now receive an increased allowance for prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses.

The tribe announced last month the allowance would be raised from $150 to $200. This benefit amount is for a 24-month period.

The increase is effective May 1.

“This increase is one part of our comprehensive efforts to help Chickasaws meet their health care needs,” Gov. Bill Anoatubby said. “We will continue to explore ways to expand our services. We understand health care is a top priority for the Chickasaw people.”

There is no age restriction attached to the eyglasses benefit. Glasses and contacts must be purchased through Oklahoma Optical.

Oklahoma Optical is a tribally-owned lens manufacturing business with locations in Ada, Ardmore, Purcell and Tishomingo, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Optical also provides mail order service. The Eyeglasses Program is available to citizens living both inside and outside Chickasaw Nation boundaries.
